What's the most underrated Fillomino variant? For me, it's definitely Outside Fillomino. It's by far my favourite variant of the genre and I haven't seen it anywhere outside of the first Toketa book. I'm going to omit one detail from the ruleset for this first introduction to the variant, and save that for a future appearance.

Rules: Divide the grid into regions of orthogonally connected cells and place a number into each cell, indicating the size of its region. Two regions of the same size may not share an edge. If a row or column is preceded by any clues, they describe all runs of consecutive cells in that row or column which contain the same number. The clues are given in the correct order.

Answer check looks for either edges or numbers. That said, if you get stuck, I highly recommend filling in the numbers, they make some steps much easier to spot.

GAPP 101: A region of a given size can never grow into a row or column in which it does not appear as a clue.
