Walker

Congrats to kinoseidon, Mornicus, MikoKisai, Stef, kays, ericthered13, malbolgian, Cow, Scepthan, Shogia, AkashG23, and RynLorathel for correctly guessing today’s genre and earning a bonus otter! 🦦

Today’s GAPP is a Kurodoko (黒どこ)! It’s a shortened form of 黒枡はどこだ, translating to "Where are the black cells?". There are a lot of interesting correspondences between the Japanese and English names for Nikoli puzzle genres. For instance, you may have heard of the alternate name Light Up used for Akari; but did you know that, instead of Akari, Nikoli uses 美術館 (meaning art museum)?

I’ve gathered a few less-common English names for Nikoli genres. (Some are reasonably close to the translation, but not exactly the same.) Can you match them with their more common equivalent?

- Bridges
- Islands in the Stream
- Firefly
- Arrow Ring
- Dotty Dilemma

Rules: Shade some cells so that no two shaded cells are orthogonally adjacent and the remaining unshaded cells form one orthogonally connected area. Clues cannot be shaded, and represent the total number of unshaded cells that can be seen in a straight line vertically or horizontally, including itself.

Try past GAPP classic Where are the black cells?, aka Kurodoko:
