Congratulations from all of us go out to Shogia, Mornicus, Malrog, AkashG23, MikoKisai and ericthered13 for guessing today's genre right! It's the final day of the guessing game 🦦 Pay close attention to the intro, maybe you'll end up the next proud owner of a bonus otter! 👀
Today's puzzle is a Cave (Product)!
Right, maybe this one was also a bit cheeky as Cave is sometimes known by a different name (Bag or Corral), just like the previous two puzzles. Our puzzle from two days ago, Kurodoko, can also be found as Kuromasu. Maybe you've also heard of Cross Sums, an alternative name for yesterday's genre Kakuro, making an appearance at last year's WSPC. Another interesting one I hadn't heard of is Shiromaru-Kuromaru - can you guess what the more common name for this genre is?
Rules:
Shade some cells so that the shaded cells are all connected orthogonally by other shaded cells to the edge of the grid, and the remaining unshaded cells form one orthogonally connected area. Clues cannot be shaded, and represent the product of the number of unshaded cells that can be seen in a straight line vertically and horizontally, including itself.
GAPP 101: The checkerboard deduction from a normal Cave puzzle still applies to this variant! Any 2x2 area cannot be a checkerboard of shaded and unshaded cells. This is because to connect all the unshaded cells into one single cave, you would have to wrap around one of the shaded cells, and in turn stop it from connecting to the edge of the grid.
Most recent standard Cave (May/24 by me):
Acquire a Speedy Sloth 🦥 by solving in 3:00 or less!
Obtain a Quick Crab 🦀 by solving in 6:00 or less!
All solvers who complete the puzzle will be rewarded with a Monochromatic Maestro Manucode 🐦!
